The principles behind generative learning offer the instructional designer much guidance for, developing effective instruction that emphasizes the learner as an active partner in the instructional process. There is much research that has been done to support this position, and there is much

research to do to figure out how to help the designer to create a learning environment that promotes this active mental processing at all stages and levels of learning. All of the evidence indicates, in my view, that it is an area of very fruitful work that should continue.
