Distance Learning
Division Award Manager

Barbara Hall
Northcentral University

After serving for five years as the chair of the Distance Education Book Award committee, I am asking for your support to serve as the overall Awards Manager for the division.

I improved the book award process in several ways. I recommended changes to the nominating and scoring criteria in two different years and continually sought diverse characteristics of peer reviewers each year. I created a Gmail account specific to the book award for consistency and historical knowledge during chair transitions. I also automated the nomination and scoring processes using Google Forms. I would apply similar creativity and problem-solving to the entire awards process, adding to what the current DDL leadership is already accomplishing.

In addition to serving as the Book Award committee chair, I have served as a peer reviewer for the Burmeister and Crystal Awards. Along with several colleagues, I earned a DDL award for Best Journal Article, Quantitative, second place (2016). I have reviewed conference proposals and participated in a panel session, roundtable, and multiple concurrent presentations. I have reviewed session proposals for multiple divisions and serve as a peer reviewer for two AECT publications: Educational Technology Research and Development and TechTrends. My primary affiliation is the DDL.

I am the Director of Curriculum and Associate Professor in the School of Education at Northcentral University, including service on the university’s committee on diversity, equity, and inclusion. You can learn more about me by viewing my profiles on LinkedIn and ResearchGate or by viewing my CV.

Thank you.
