Tiffany Roman
Kennesaw State University

Dr. Tiffany Roman currently holds the position of Secretary within the Research and Theory Division (RTD) of AECT and requests your support to serve as the Communications Officer for RTD in 2023-2024. Roman is an Assistant Professor of Instructional Technology in the School of Instructional Technology and Innovation in the Bagwell College of Education (BCOE) at Kennesaw State University (KSU). She holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University and her M.Ed. and BFA are from the University of Notre Dame. Her scholarship examines how the design and development of learning technologies, technology-enhanced instructional practices, and active learning environments support student engagement, improve student learning outcomes, and address issues of social justice.

Roman’s recent publications can be found in the Journal of Research on Technology in Education, Journal of Technology and Teacher Education, the Journal of Applied Instructional Design, and TechTrends. Her research has been externally funded by Steelcase Corporation and internally funded by the Office of Research at KSU. In 2022, Roman received the Outstanding Junior Scholar Research Award from her college. In 2021, Roman received the Young Researcher Award from AECT’s Research and Theory Division. She is a previous participant in the NSF-sponsored Learning Analytics in STEM Education Research (LASER) Institute and the NSF Quantitative Research Methods for STEM Education Scholars Program.

If elected to serve as the Communications Officer of RTD, Roman brings to the position experience co-founding her department’s Online Presence Committee to increase the department’s outreach to KSU’s graduate students, partners, and alumni through Twitter and Facebook social media channels. If elected to serve as RTD’s Communication Officer, Roman intends to bring timely and relevant communication to RTD members through existing correspondence channels (e.g., AECT RTD website, RTD Google Sites Website, Facebook, Twitter, official AECT emails), while also supporting emergent communication platforms (e.g., Connected Community). Roman seeks to partner with the RTD board to enhance the visibility of RTD’s events and activities. In addition to being the RTD’s current Secretary, she previously served AECT in the TED division as the GSA representative.

Roman enjoys serving at the departmental, college, university, and professional level. In 2021, she co-chaired the development of a new undergraduate Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT) program at KSU and represents her department within the BCOE’s Global Engagement Committee. She previously chaired the Student Awards and Development Committee within her college and currently serves her university as a Global Fellow for the Year of New Zealand. Roman also serves as an editorial board member of Active Learning in Higher Education.
