Vanessa Dennen

Vanessa Dennen is the Tyner Distinguished Professor of Education in the Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies Program at Florida State University, where she has taught since 2003. She is also the co-Editor-in-Chief of The Internet and Higher Education. She earned a PhD in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University and an MS in Instructional Design Development and Evaluation from Syracuse University. Her scholarly work focuses on issues related to online learning, social media, and networked knowledge interactions. As an educator, she values learner-centeredness and open pedagogy, and has received seven major teaching and mentoring awards at Florida State University. She has been an active member of AECT since graduate school, and has introduced many graduate students to the organization. Her involvement in AECT beyond reviewing for and attending annual conventions and reviewing for journals has included participation in the intern program (as both an intern and a mentor for interns) and the early career symposium (as a mentor), serving as RTD president, communications chair and board member, two terms on the presidential nomination committee, reviewing for various awards and serving on a task force in the early 2000s. She has also recently co-edited a volume published as part of the AECT-Springer partnership. She considers AECT her academic home and welcomes the opportunity to serve the organization and help RTD members engage in continuous growth and meet their professional goals.
