Ismahan Arslan-Ari
University of South Carolina

Dr. Ismahan Arslan-Ari is an associate professor in the Learning Design and Technologies program at the University of South Carolina. She is also the director of the South Carolina Assistive Technology and Educational Research Center. She received her doctorate in Instructional Technology with a minor in Special Education (Deafblind) from Texas Tech University (TTU). She also holds a separate master’s degree in Instructional Technology and Special Education. Prior to her current appointment, Dr. Arslan-Ari worked as a lead instructional designer at Texas Tech University Independent School District which delivers fully online K-12 education to students all around the world. As an adjunct faculty, she also taught in Instructional Technology program at TTU.

Dr. Arslan-Ari has valuable research experiences through collaborative research projects related to multimedia learning, technology integration in education, assistive technologies for students with disabilities, adaptive web-based learning systems, and human-computer interaction. She published the results of these research studies in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Her scholarship mainly focuses on multimedia learning, human computer interaction, and the use of assistive technologies. Dr. Arslan-Ari is currently serving as a reviewer for Educational Technology Research and Development, Computers & Education, Journal of Computer-Assisted Learning, and Issues and Trends in Educational Technology.

Throughout her career, Dr. Arslan-Ari has involved in many leadership roles in professional organizations. She has been a member of AECT since she was a doctoral student at TTU. She served as a secretary and professional development coordinator of the AECT Research and Theory division. She is currently serving as an AECT Accessibility committee member. Dr. Arslan-Ari was also a participant of the 2011 NSF/AECT Early Career Research Symposium. Additionally, she has been serving as an outreach and education committee member of Accessible South Carolina IT since 2018. She served as a secretary of and as a board member in the planning of the South Carolina Conference on Innovations in Teaching & Learning and as a graduate student representative for TTU in the Southwest Educational Research Association. She is seeking the role of Featured Research Coordinator in the RTD division.
