Juhong (Christie) Liu

Juhong Christie Liu, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor and Senior Instructional Designer in Libraries and Educational Technologies at James Madison University (JMU). She teaches blended and online graduate and undergraduate classes and serves on graduate thesis committees in JMU College of Education. Her research areas focus on strategies engaging student learning, design of innovative learning environment, and teaching with emerging technologies and in an inclusive community.

Juhong’s membership in AECT started in 2003. Since then she has participated in AECT events as a conference planner, reviewer, presenter, and author. Juhong was an AECT conference planner in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2016. She served on the Review Board for AECT 2015 International Summer Research Symposium. She is a HKAECT 2017 and 2018 International Advisory Board member.

As the 2017 President of Society of International Chinese in Educational Technology (SICET), she oversaw the SICET development in all aspects. In particular, she coordinated the planning, call for proposals, review, proceeding publication, conference registration, and programming for Educational Innovation through Technology (EITT2017) international conference in Osaka, Japan. With representations from 8 countries and regions, the conference received support from China Northeast Normal University, Waseda University and Osaka University in Japan, AECT, Japan Society of Educational Technology (JSET), and China Association for Educational Technology (CAET) and recruited more than 80 new SICET members.

These demonstrated Juhong’s insight and capability to collaborate with professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

With a Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Technology from Virginia Tech, Juhong published peer-reviewed journal papers and book chapters; and presented at international, national, and regional conferences. She was an AECT PacifiCorp Design Competition finalist and a best-in-track presenter at the OLC 2013 Blended Learning Conference. Currently she is Co-PI on projects sponsored by NSF ($275,507), VBPD ($244,091), and JMU ($2,000). She serves on the NSF review panel, Editorial Board of JETDE, and as a reviewer for journals such as JCAL. She also served on the JMU Diversity Council between 2013 and 2015.

As a nominated candidate for CLT VP for Membership, Juhong is hoping to contribute her
international and interdisciplinary experience and expertise to the CLT development.
