School Media & Technology
President Elect

Tamera Hudnell
Nova Southeastern University

My name is Tamera Hudnell, and I am honored to run for the position of President-Elect of the School Media & Technology division for 2018-19.  I have served this division for several years. I first served as the SMT representative to the GSA, and I am serving as SMT’s secretary. The recent AECT Listens and Learns with Duval County Schools event is one example. I was honored to serve as the co-chair and planner for this highly successful professional development event that brought nearly 100 p-12 educators to our international convention. This year, SMT is on track to accomplish some great things within our organization, and I am asking for your vote to carry our mission forward. Our mission is clear, it is fueled by our desire and passion to promote and improve communication among p-12 educational technology leaders. Through initiatives like this, we will promote strategic partnerships, encourage effective utilization of media and technology, and provide access through various projects.  Our aim is to be game changers and promote exponential growth and excitement about the limitless opportunities within SMT. My commitment as the current SMT Secretary has been strengthened by the overwhelming support and mentorship of long time member Leslie Blatt (SMT Representative to the AECT Board and long-time organizational leader) and Dr. Paige Hale (outgoing SMT President).

I am a current doctoral candidate at Nova Southeastern University in the Instructional Technology and Distance Education program.  I currently work for Portsmouth Public Schools (Virginia) as a Language Live (blended learning) teacher for 7th and 8th grade students at William E. Waters Middle School.  I am a certified K-12 teacher in the state of Florida and Virginia.  I have worked with inner-city high schools for the last fifteen years.  My strengths include working with adult learners pursuing their GED.  My research interests include: instructional design and retention in web-based charter schools; compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to web-based environments; emerging technologies with special needs populations; and professional development on flipped classrooms to engage students in the inner-city/urban areas.

I humbly ask you for your vote. If I can answer any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at th943@nova.edu.
