Design and Development
University of Technology Nuremberg
AECT is a great venue and being involved in AECT as presenter, panelist or workshop coordinator, is superb! Now, I think the time is right to do more. It would be fantastic to become a Board Member in the Design & Development Division of AECT. I would love to actively engage with this group and to support different activities.
I am an international & interdisciplinary scholar.
I studied social sciences with a focus on technology and received my Ph.D. degree at Dortmund University, Germany, 2005. I studied online discussion boards as a tool for informal-in-formal learning in a Computer Science study program (DBR methodology). I was a post-doctoral researcher at the Ruhr-University of Bochum, Germany and at the University of Colorado at Boulder (2007). As an assistant professor at TU Dortmund, Germany (2008-2011), I had funded projects of creativity in technology-enhanced environments and remote labs in engineering education.
In 2011, I accepted a full professorship in Sweden, Umeň University and studied tablet integration in schools and emergent technologies, e.g., AR/Google Glass in dentistry education. I was visiting professor at the University of Florida in 2012 in the Educational Technology program (Dr. Swapna Kumar). In 2014, I was general co-chair of ACM GROUP 2014.
From 2015 to 2021, I was associate professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia and director of the Information Experience Lab (IElab), https://ielab.missouri.edu, a user/learning experience lab, at the iSchool of Information Science and Learning Technologies (e.g., my studies on mobile microlearning, games for learning).
In 2021, the University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN), Germany offered me terrific new perspectives as Founding Vice President for digital learning and full professor to build the Digital LEAD Lab, a research lab for digital Learning Experience & Active Design ľ and so I moved. UTN is a new university founded in 2021, a new place for studying. Interdisciplinary, international and digital ľ these are the keywords characterizing the concept of UTN.
I attended AECT in 2016 the first time, and I am actively involved in networking and cooperation since then. For example, I work with Matthew Schmidt, Andrew Tawfik and Yvonne Earnshaw (e.g., https://edtechbooks.org/ux).
