Systems Thinking & Change
Communications Officer Candidate

Michael Lampe
University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

I am currently the Digital Education and Academic Technology Program Director at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus School of Dental Medicine. It would be a great honor to continue serving on AECTís STC Board as the Communications Officer to contribute and welcome diverse viewpoints and ideas. In line with systems thinking, my role at the school is to find chunkable approaches that assist in enhancing teaching and learning activities to faculty members who also research and work in hospitals on campus. Such approaches include utilizing tools such as a LMS accessibility checker to provide quick point-of-contact moments where the faculty are prompted to find small ways to make content more accessible. Along with working on instructional design activities, I collaborate in interdepartmental committees at the medical campus to promote virtual reality/augmented reality, open education resources, and instructional design networking opportunities.

Recently, I completed my dissertation in exploring needs of faculty members when teaching in new active learning classrooms at a regional public southeastern institution. The recommendations that were made are also in line with systems thinking because they covered more than just the Learning Technologies Department running such an initiative. It was also about giving recommendations to academic administrators who have oversight on faculty development incentives and information technology administrators who provide technical support when standardizing technology in the classrooms.

If given the opportunity, I hope to continue finding innovative ways to communicate the mission of AECT and the positive impacts that systems thinking and change can bring to any context.
