Katie Walters is a current doctoral candidate in Learning, Design, and Technology at the University of Georgia. Her research centers around how learning designers attend to issues of social justice in their practice and research. She is a member of the CLT’s doctoral student working group and helped to organize the critical theory-focused webinars in Summer 2021, which resulted in two AECT panel presentations. She was the co-editor (with TJ Kopcha, Tutaleni Asino, and Lisa Giacumo) of the most recent edition of the Journal of Applied Instructional Design (JAID) on Attending to Issues of Social Change Through Learning Design. In January 2022 she will begin a new position as the Spencer Research Associate for the Putnam Country Charter School System, leading data collection and analysis for a Research Practice Partnership (RPP) grant. This project looks to support rural high school students in their transition to university through culturally-relevant place- and project-based learning strategies.

As a new/emerging scholar, I am glad to have found my home in the CLT division, and I hope to contribute to the division in the capacity of VP of special projects. I look forward to working and learning together to make the changes we want to see in our individual and collective practices.
