Graduate Student Assembly
President Elect

Mohammad Shams Ud Duha
Purdue University

I am currently pursuing my PhD in Learning Design & Technology at Purdue University. Before coming to Purdue, I taught English for six years at several universities in Bangladesh. I was also awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach at Indiana University during the 2015-16 academic year. My specific research interests are in the online learning environment, social media in education, and microlearning.

My passion for leadership coupled with extensive leadership experience in my home country and the US continually drives me to pursue worthy opportunities to serve. My leadership experience illustrates that I have always involved myself in one or multiple leadership positions at any given time since my teenage years. I have consistently taken on higher-level roles as I grow personally and professionally. At the AECT, I am currently serving as the Bylaws Champion for the GSA. As the Bylaws Champion, I am leading a team to rewrite the bylaws and member handbook of the GSA. I also serve as an editorial board member of AECT's new journal: Journal of Technology Integrated Lessons and Teaching (JTILT). Previously, I served as the GSA representative to the Teacher Education Division and the Division of Emerging Learning Technologies in 2019-20 and 2020-21 respectively. I also initiated the Microlearning Initiative of the GSA in 2019 and am currently co-leading the initiative.

Within Purdue University, I have served several student organizations in key positions in the past three years, including the president of two student organizations. I served as Purdue Association of Learning Design & Technology (PALDT) president in 2020-2021. We were awarded several major grants for student organizations during my term, including Student Organization Grant Allocation (SOGA) Board grants and community service grants. During my presidency, Purdue University has also awarded the PALDT the outstanding program award for implementing the most exemplary campus programs.  Additionally, I also serve as a global ambassador of the Purdue Graduate School.

If I am elected as the president of the GSA, I will leverage my experience serving in key roles in different organizations to continue to involve more graduate students in GSA activities, promote graduate students initiatives, and organize meaningful professional development events by partnering with the divisions of the AECT. I believe that with my experience working with the AECT leadership in general and AECT GSA leadership in particular, over the past three years, I would be able to make a difference in working towards achieving the mission of the GSA.
