Member at Large

Irene Bal
Loyola University Maryland & Old Dominion University

I am a teacher educator, with a K-12 music background, who taught high school concert and marching band and orchestra and 3K to 6th grade general music. I also worked as a district-level instructional technology coach supporting PK-12th grade teachers in classroom technology integration. I am currently a faculty member at Loyola University Maryland in the Educational Technology Graduate Program. working with PK-12th grade teachers and a doctoral student in my 3rd year at Old Dominion University (ODU) in the Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) PhD Program. My research centers around pre-service and in-service teacher professional learning/development, specifically looking at how innovative technologies and micro-learning and -credentials can be utilized in the professional development of teachers.

In the 2020-2021 year, I was the Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) representative for the Teacher Ed Division (TED) where I took an active role in TED, identifying opportunities that may be of interest to GSA members and relaying those opportunities to the GSA community. While in this position, I attended TED monthly board meetings and actively contributed to the division including supporting the shift of the lesson repository to JTILT, the Journal of Technology Integrated Lessons and Teaching. I was also the recipient of the TED Smaldino & Herring Teacher Leadership Award for 2021 and serve on the editorial board and as the copy editor for JTILT.

I want to continue this work of supporting, growing, and leading the Teacher Ed Division through the Member-at-Large position from 2022 to 2024.
