My name is Sanghoon Park, associate professor in the Instructional Technology / Learning Design and Technology program at the University of South Florida – Tampa (USF). For the last 19 years since 2001, I have been an active member of AECT and had an honor to serve in various capacities including 2021 AECT president nomination committee, 2018 AECT program planning committee member & KSET program planner, 2015 AECT-LKAOE review board member, 2004 Design and Development (D&D) competition finalist, and 2004 Cochran intern, in addition to regularly serving as a proposal reviewer and delivering presentations at the AECT annual conferences and summer symposiums. Learning motivation and engagement have been two of my research interests since 2001 when I began my doctoral work at Florida State University under the guidance of Dr. John Keller, and I have been working on various research projects involving motivational design, motivational regulation, and learning engagement in online/digital learning environments. My works have been recognized with AECT division awards including Burmeister award (2015-DDL), Crystal award 1st (2018-DDL), Journal article award 3rd (2018-DDL), Best practice award 1st (2019-DDL), and Immersive learning award (2019-DELT). In this year, an article I published with my colleague was selected to receive the AECT Learner Engagement Division (LED)’s 2020 outstanding publication award. It has been a tremendous privilege for me to be part of the AECT community, and I am grateful for this opportunity to serve as a program officer for LED. In this role, I would strive to accomplish the LED goals and efforts by encouraging active communication, sharing LED research & practices, and supporting LED members’ needs through webinars and online interviews with researchers/practitioners in our field.
