Ross Perkins
Boise State University

Ross A. Perkins, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Technology at Boise State University. He joined the department in 2008 after having worked at Virginia Tech, where he earned his Ph.D. in 2003. He was previously a high school English teacher in Virginia and has been a consultant on various academic and non-academic design, research, and evaluation projects. Perkins has been associated with AECT since 2000 and has presented numerous times and served in various leadership capacities in that time. His service includes terms on the Ethics Committee, the Presidential Nominations Committee, and in the International Division, first as communications officer (2003-2008) and then in the division's presidential capacities (2008 to 2010). He has also served as conference proposal reviewer for various AECT divisions. Perkins was previously a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Society for Technology in Education (2004-2008) and its Coordinator of Electronic Communications (2002-2007). Perkins was the Managing Editor of the VSTE Journal (2002-2008) and a column editor for TechTrends (2007-2008). He serves on editorial review boards for Educational Technology Research & Development, TechTrends, and the Journal of Formative Design in Learning. Perkins created and maintains the site, http://www.edtechjournals.org, which has data on more than 240 journals related to the field of educational / instructional design and technology. Currently Perkins teaches classes in instructional design, emerging trends, and evaluation. He is the coordinator of the Department of Educational Technology's portfolio-based capstone master's degree course, and serves in a coordinating role for the specialist (Ed.S.) and doctoral (Ed.D.) degrees. His recent academic work includes a co-edited book published in 2016 by Springer, The Flipped College Classroom: Conceptualized and Re-conceptualized and a co-authored research article about open access journals that appeared in the Australasian Journal of Educational Technology.
