Gregory Francom
Northern State University


Dr. Gregory M. Francom is an Associate Professor of E-Learning at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He has developed and taught online and face to face courses on educational technology, online learning, multimedia and web design, principles of instructional design, development and evaluation of e-learning, and research methods. Dr. Francom completed his Doctorate in Learning, Design, and Technology at the University of Georgia in 2011. He also earned a bachelor's degree in media arts studies from Brigham Young University and a master's degree in Instructional Technology from Utah State University.
For research, Dr. Francom has studied and implemented student-centered and task-centered learning experiences for K-12 and higher education students. In his studies, He has sought to improve practice by developing applied and task-centered instructional designs to improve learning in K-12 and higher education. These designs are influenced by theory but also by practical needs within the study setting. Overall, Dr. Francom has preferred research work that results in improved practical outcomes in realistic settings rather than purely theoretical implications.

For nearly 10 years, Dr. Francom has been an active member of several divisions in the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT). For the past five years, he has served as a proposal reviewer for three AECT divisions: Distance Learning, Teacher Education and Design and Development. Dr. Francom is currently seeking new opportunities to serve AECT and make a positive difference.
