International
President Elect

Nicole Wang-Trexler
University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Nicole Wang-Trexler, the Associate Director of Data Science and Research at the University of Pennsylvania, is running for the President-Elect position for the International Division. She obtained a dual-title Ph.D. degree in Learning, Design, and Technology as well as in Comparative and International Education from the Pennsylvania State University. Nicole has been an active AECT member since 2015. Currently, she serves as the Secretary of the International Division (2019-), before which she was the International Division Board Representative at Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) from 2018 to 2019. With the long-time commitment to AECT and the International Division, Nicole hopes to seek the opportunity to guide the division to the next level by “standing on the shoulders” of the past and present presidents and officers.

Since 2018, Nicole has actively involved with the International Division (ID). Starting with the role of International Division Board Representative at Graduate Student Assembly (GSA), Nicole acted as the liaison between two divisions. In addition to this responsibility, she also organized the first ID and GSA Night out, co-sponsored by GSA, ID and Design and Development Division in 2018, and GSA and INTL in 2019. In addition, Nicole has served as a volunteer for the ID at the convention from 2018 till now that involved in award committee, Jenny Johnson hospitality center, and donation initiatives.

With her active involvement in ID division, Nicole was appointed as the Secretary of International Division since 2019. Her main responsibility is to coordinate the divisional archives, assist the President in recording project updates and meeting minutes, and keep an updated record of bylaws and significant actions taken during the board meetings. Getting involved with all the initiatives and activities have helped Nicole to grasp the mission and vision of ID, and the impacts the division has to all international students and scholars. In all, serving as the Secretary has helped Nicole to be more committed to the ID and be more active within the division.

Nicole is looking forward to the opportunities of working with all officers and members of the International Division to further fulfill its vision in “facilitating the communication among educational technology professionals and students worldwide”. If she can be selected as the President-elect of the International Division, Nicole will further reinforce the mission by fulfilling the following initiatives that are built upon the legacies of the past and present board members:

• Strengthen the collaborations with AECT international affiliations
• Seek new outreach opportunities in different conferences and associations to increase the awareness of AECT and the International Division
• Collaborate with academic institutions to increase a variety of collaboration opportunities for international students and scholars in a global context
• Work with other divisions to strengthen inclusiveness and equality in our organization
• Continue offer professional development opportunities for early- and mid- career international professionals.
• Provide more opportunities to help international students and scholars to collaborate with each other by offering different kinds of social activities and events
• Promote our vision, mission and history at Jenny Johnson International Hospitality Center during the convention and in different channels throughout the year
• Create opportunities to help past-presidents and past-officers build stronger relationships

Nicole Wang-Trexler describes AECT as her professional family and home organization. She is looking forward to this opportunity to continue service the International Division as the President-Elect.
