Albert Akyeampong
Ohio Northern University

Dr. Akyeampong holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from Ohio University, United States, Master of Science degree from the University of Reading in England, Bachelor’s degree from University of Ghana, and Certificate in Project Management from Aalborg University in Denmark. Dr. Akyeampong teaches courses in Instructional Multimedia, Digital Storytelling, Curriculum Assessment, and Understanding Human Differences In A Globalized World.

Dr. Akyeampong completed his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Ghana before leaving for the United Kingdom to pursue his Master of Science degree. After his masters degree Dr. Akyeampong returned to Ghana to work for a few years before leaving for the United States to pursue his PhD.  After graduating with a doctorate degree instructional technology Dr. Akyeampong was offered a teaching position at Ohio University where he continued teaching till 2013 when he left for Ohio Northern University on a tenure track position. Dr. Akyeampong served on department, college and university committees.  

Dr. Akyeampong has taught courses in Globalization in the context of young people and technology, computer technology education, including Technology Applications in Education, Media and the Young Adult, Leadership and Professional Development in Technology, Instructional Media and Educational Technologies, and Education Applications of the Internet. Dr. Akyeampong has designed and taught course both face-to-face and online. Dr. Akyeampong has taught in Ohio University for several years before coming to Ohio Northern University.

Dr. Akyeampong’s research interests include the use of technology in the development and delivery of instruction face-to-face and online. Dr. Akyeampong’s research focuses on examining new technologies, including digital media, open source software, digital storytelling and their role in education.

Dr. Akyeampong has presented in a number of international and local conferences including AECT.  Dr. Akyeampong’s recent publication was a book chapter (title - Promoting Creativity and Critical Thinking Through Digital Storytelling) edited by Dr. Brad Hokanson et al, past AECT president and published by springer.

Dr. Akyeampong’s first presented at AECT in 2011 in Jacksonville Florida. He has since been regularly attending the conference and has been a member of AECT since. When Dr. Akyeampong visited the international division he felt very much at home and decided to join the division and make the international division his ‘home’.

If elected, Dr. Akyeampong would be honored to serve as the President Elect Designate for the International Division. He would be delighted at the opportunity to work closely with the President Elect. If elected Dr. Akyeampong will like to foster stronger communication and collaborations among members of the division, organization, the field, international faculty, staff and students.

Dr. Akyeampong has travelled extensively and has interacted with diverse population in many countries including Turkey and Germany. He has led study tours to Benin, Tanzania and Kenya and attended college in a number of countries including Ghana, the United Kingdom, Denmark and the US. This experience has enabled Dr. Akyeampong to acquire a unique international perspective, which he brings to his work and hopes to bring this expertise to the international Division.

If elected Dr. Akyeampong will work to advance the vision and goals of the International Division to facilitate communication among educational technology professionals and students worldwide. Dr. Akyeampong with his international experience will work with members to promote communication and collaboration across international boundaries and cultural lines by mentoring and fostering educational endeavors, and coordinating communication with sister associations around the world.
