Candidate Statement

While we all aspire to be part of something big, one of the noblest of acts is being a part of change. As members of the Culture, Learning, and Technology (CLT) Division, we are in the position to affect change as it relates to the intersection of culture, learning, and technology.  So often there are assumptions that all learners are afforded the same opportunities or have the same experiences.  However, in most cases, learning experiences and opportunities are not the same. Part of professional understanding is the ability to have healthy discourse, valued research, and communication within the educational communications and technology field. As a result, it is critical to increase active membership in CLT, which in turn will increase our impact on change.

As the potential Vice President of CLT Membership, I have two goals:  1) promote CLT through marketing via social media and 2) increase CLT membership. In my current position as Chief Learning Officer and former position as a university Curriculum Operations Manager, my role has been to manage all aspects of curriculum operations and development. A critical component of my position is interfacing with public sector and university executives, academic deans, faculty members, and students to ensure developed curricula meets their needs. I also recruit subject matter experts to work on curriculum development projects. My ability to plan, negotiate, and communicate at all levels are assets needed when communicating the benefits of AECT CLT membership and member recruitment. My professional background also entails a great deal of project management.  As a result, my project management skills will be implemented as I effectively plan and execute CLT membership growth initiatives.  Additionally, I am knowledgeable and can implement social media use for member engagement in ways that are both professional and appealing.

Members of the AECT, CLT Division, I ask that you be a part of change.  Please allow me, Tammy McClain-Smith, Ed.D. to guide change in membership as the new CLT Vice President of Membership.
