Hi, I’m Michael Grant.  I was nominated as a candidate for this position, and I am proud to be running for a second term for Executive Secretary as part of the AECT Board.  I was previously the Past President of the Research & Theory Division after serving as the President of the division, President-Elect, and President-Elect Designate previously.  As a graduate student, I volunteered during our conferences, and I was asked to chair a Publications Task Force to review the status of our journals and make recommendations to the AECT Board.

I would like to continue to contribute on a broader scale to AECT-as-a-whole through the Executive Board and Executive Secretary position.  I feel the Executive Secretary is a critical step in understanding how our organization operates, how the organization influences, and how the organization may be improved.  I believe I have the skills necessary to effectively execute the responsibilities of the Executive Secretary, and I look forward to working with President Brad Hokanson, President-Elect Eugene Kowch, and the AECT Board of Directors in order to meaningfully represent our members and professions. I also believe that I have been able to add a voice into the Executive Committee that reflects our membership.  As the Executive Secretary for two years, I have moved much of our minutes and communications through Google Docs for ease during meetings and for reference.  I believe we are moving toward a digital system for our organization that is more indicative of our profession.

Background
I am currently a faculty member and program coordinator for the Educational Technology program at the University of South Carolina. Previously, I was an Associate Professor in the Instructional Design & Technology program at the University of Memphis, where I work primarily with Masters and doctoral students. My research considers three complementary areas: the design and development of technology-rich learning environments, graphic and instructional designs to support learning, and key learner characteristics. My most recent scholarship has focused on how to design, develop, and implement mobile teaching and learning in K-12 and higher education, particularly in STEM disciplines. I earned his Ph.D. from The University of Georgia in Instructional Technology. I am currently the Editor of the Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-based Learning , the Past President of the Research & Theory Division of AECT, and the Past Chair of SIG-IT for AERA.  I can be contacted via my website at Viral-Notebook.com or through Twitter @michaelmgrant.  You can also view my publications and presentations through my website.
