Lucas Vasconcelos
University of South Carolina

Lucas Vasconcelos is Assistant Professor of Learning Design and Technologies at the University of South Carolina. Prior to that, he earned his PhD in Learning, Design, and Technology at the University of Georgia.

His research agenda is at the intersection of educational technology, computer science education, and science education. Specifically, he researches technology-enhanced designs for STEM teaching and learning. His research projects currently focus on preservice teachers’ experiences coding science simulations, assembling and coding educational robots, and applying cognitive strategies to debug block-based code errors. His research was awarded the highly competitive Best Student Paper Award offered by AERA's Instructional Technology SIG in 2019.

Lucas has served AECT in several capacities, including but not limited to full-time convention volunteer, graduate student division representative, and coordinator of the GSA logo competition. Lucas has contributed to various projects within different AECT divisions such as setting up and managing an online storefront for fundraising, analyzing and co-writing a report on needs assessment data, and co-planning first timers' orientation for the 2020 AECT convention. Lucas’s leadership in AECT was recognized in 2018 with the Earl F. Strohbehn Internship Award. Currently, Lucas is a member of the first timers subcommittee within the Leadership Development Committee, mentor for the 2020 Addie Kinsinger Leadership Development Interns, and Secretary in the Research and Theory Division.

His research experience and continued service to AECT make him a great candidate for the Featured Research Coordinator position in the Research & Theory Division.
