Hello, my name is Hajeen Choi. I am a doctoral candidate in the Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies program at Florida State University. Currently, I am serving as a GSA (Graduate Student Assembly) Representative for Research & Theory Division.
My research interests include identity, belonging/othering, and engagement in online learning, social media in education, and informal learning. Currently, I am working on my dissertation but also working on the project such as diversity and othering in online learning, Twitter Conference Backchannel, and Network Analysis in education. I have been teaching an educational technology course to pre-service teachers at FSU since 2018. Additionally, I was working as a teaching assistant for various online courses such as Distance Learning, Trend and Issues, Technology and Design, and IS Research Seminar.
I hold both BA and MA in Educational Technology from Ewha Womans University in South Korea and MBA from Duke University. Before I joined FSU for PhD, I worked for about 15 years in an IT and education industry, and consulting firms. I started my career at a portal company as an educational content and service planner. Later, I moved to consulting area and worked at an IT consulting firm and management consulting firm as a consultant. I also served as a project management officer for R&D department at an education company. Since I worked in cross-functional teams or in global project teams, I had many years of experiences of coordinating, collaborating, and communicating with people in a different level from different departments. Therefore, I know how to collaborate and communicate effectively with diverse people within an organization.
My goals as a graduate representative for Research and Theory Division is to become a liaison and supporter for the board members to achieve their vision of the division and to let more graduate students engage in the division activities. I look forward to serving as the RTD representative for 2021-2022. Thank you!
