Greetings colleagues!

My name is Daniel Watanabe, and I am running for the Communications Officer position within the Systems Thinking and Change Division of AECT.

Currently, I am working with the Instructional Design & Technology Department at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan. and establishing my own learning and development company, Underground Learning & Design.

I entered IDT through marketing and communications, as I had the opportunity to be the media liaison for Emporia State’s athletic department after spending the previous season in the same role for Metropolitan State University of Denver. The opportunity allowed me to pursue my studies in IDT, which I have thoroughly enjoyed ever since.

In my current role, I am focusing on creating digital marketing and promotional content, and increasing our department’s online presence. One of our main departmental priorities is showcasing Kansas City in preparation for the 2018 AECT International Convention next fall, as we want our colleagues to have an enjoyable time experiencing what the area has to offer including world famous barbecue, excellent museums, and shopping centers. I feel the Communications Officer position at this point in time is a unique opportunity for me to set a precedent for promotional activities for the upcoming convention and future conventions.

I recognize that instructional design and the process of designing learning experiences is constantly changing as we seek to adapt with the latest innovations in delivering content with the needs of learners. I welcome the challenge asked of the Systems Thinking and Change Division to be at the forefront of the effort to increase exposure for the exceptional and internationally strong professionals in our field and welcome the opportunity to be involved in this effort.
