Andrew Tawfik
University of Memphis

Andrew Tawfik, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Instructional Design & Technology at the  University of Memphis. His research interests include problem-based learning, case-based reasoning, case library instructional design, and computer supported collaborative learning. His research especially focuses on how learners use failure experiences to solve new problems. Dr. Tawfik also serves as the director for the University of Memphis Instructional Design & Technology Studio, where he oversees the design and development of digital instructional resources in K-12, business, and medical contexts. He holds a BS of Management Information systems (Bradley University), Master’s of Information Science (Indiana University), and PhD (University of Missouri)

Dr. Tawfik is active in AECT and other educational technology research communities. From 2014-2017, he served as a board member in the Design & Development Division of AECT. In addition to his participation in AECT, in 2017 he was elected to the board for the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Design & Technology special interest group (SIG). Dr. Tawfik also serves as a board member, reviewer and editor for various educational technology journals, including his role as the Associate Editor for Technology, Knowledge, & Learning and the co-book editor section for the The Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-Based Learning.
