Hannah Grossman
UCLA/Duke University National Center for Child Traumatic Stress

Hannah Grossman is an instructional design practitioner and a design-based researcher at the UCLA/Duke University National Center for Child Traumatic Stress. Her ID work centers around adult learning in a problem-based learning format using a cognitive load framework for product design and development. This can be seen in her products training mental health professionals in trauma-informed care and in her non-profit work; such as the Video Griot project--creating skill learning videos for low literacy Gambian women.

Hannah’s research and practice agendas include multimedia skill-based learning, cross-cultural collaboration, social emotional learning, trauma-informed instructional and process design, and problem-based learning. She has experience in quantitative, qualitative, critical, and design-based methodologies which she uses to develop projects related to access to information and resources for underserved learners. This work began when she was a forestry Peace Corps volunteer in The Gambia, developed as a classroom biology teacher, and has continued to grow as a non-profit worker and professional educator.

Hannah also participates in professional associations and projects to support this work. She has been a part of the AECT and CLT since 2018. In this time she has published in TechTrends, reviewed conference proposals, presented at conferences, and lead a webinar sharing trauma-informed approaches to instructional design. She is a current member of the IRCEES SHMUL research group and would like further this work with a role as the CLT VP of Research and Publishing.
