I am a third year PhD student in Educational Technology at Iowa State University. My research lies at the intersection of learning sciences, educational technology, and human computer interaction - three fields that inform my work on the role of technology, specifically teaching/learning analytics, in improving learning environments. My overarching goal is to build inclusive and equity-based learning environments.
I believe that technology is a double-edged sword. On one side, technology tools hold promise to solve educational problems and to fuse education into today’s dynamic information-based society and knowledge based economy. However, on the other side, technology in itself does not account for the inequities and injustices that exist in learning environments - leading to further inequities and injustices. Thus, it is our responsibility to ensure that justice, equity, and human identity are integrated into the use of educational technologies.
I am delighted to apply to the Culture, Learning, and Technology Division Representative position. I am interested in issues at the intersection of culture, learning, and technology. My research experience and interests align with CLT’s vision on infusing human identification into educational technology design and use. I am confident that my skills will readily translate to this position and thus will help me in contributing to the AECT family.
