Graduate Student Assembly
TIL Board Representative

Maria Satre
Old Dominion University

I am excited to be a member of the AECT GSA and am interested in running to be the GSA representative to the Technology Integrated Learning Division. I am currently the GSA DELT representative, a Ph.D. student at Old Dominion University, the president of the Old Dominion IDT Graduate Student Organization, and a nursing instructor at Capital University. Outside of work and school, I am also a wife, a mother (of both two- and four-legged beings), a baker, and a crafter.

I enjoy learning about new technology and exploring methods for using technology to help enhance lesson delivery and student understanding. In my faculty role, I am an innovator and early adopter of education technology. I enjoy finding new applications to enhance communication in our learning management system, implement active learning strategies, and enhance fidelity in the nursing simulation lab. I recently received a micro-credential as a VR educator, and I am working towards establishing a VR nursing simulation laboratory. I believe that education technology can help to engage students, enhance communication, allow individualized learning, prepare students for the future, promote student interaction, and automate tasks to save time. With the many benefits of learning technology, there are also drawbacks. Improper use of education technology can increase student overload and distraction while hampering student creativity and learning. I am interested in joining the Technology Integrated Learning Division to explore applied research in the use of education technology to explore effective uses and best practices to promote positive learner outcomes.
