Laramie County Community College

I am an Online Learning Experience Designer at the Colorado School of Mines, Trefny Institute for Educational Innovation, and was the Senior Instructional Designer for Laramie County Community College for the last four years. Charged with increasing the impact and implementation of fully online programs and degrees, distance education is always at the heart of my professional decisions. My research projects have primarily focused on implementation of emerging technologies, and incorporation of game theory into online environments to enhance knowledge transfer and reduce cognitive load; and expanded application of social media for the professional development and onboarding of higher education faculty.

AECT has been my professional home since joining as a graduate student in 2007. As an active member of AECT, I have had the opportunity to assist with the Design & Development showcase as reviewer and facilitator, and participated in the PacifiCorp competition. I currently serve as proposal reviewer for the divisions of DDL, D&D, and RTD.

If chosen to serve as President-elect, I will work to advance the vision and goals of the Division of Distance Learning by promoting opportunities for collaboration within the division, organization, and field. One example could be a collaboration with D&D on a new showcase that focuses on design and development of instructional methods/materials specifically geared towards distance learning environments. This type of connection would favor the blending of ideas between the two divisions in new and exciting ways.  Also, I work with DDL members to identify strategies that foster increased membership, and connections with other organizational divisions. I look forward to the possibility of serving you as DDL President-elect and fulfilling this three-year commitment.
