Jin (Joy) Mao

I am honored to be a nominee for the Division of Emerging Learning Technologies (DELT) AECT Board Representative position. I am an Associate Professor of Educational Technology at Wilkes University, with a Ph.D in Instructional Systems, a M.Ed and Master’s Certificate in Adult Education/Distance Education from The Pennsylvania State University. My first connection with AECT started in 2003 when I presented with my advisor and fellow colleagues from Penn State. I joined AECT since then and have considered AECT as a true academic home for years.

I have been serving on the DELT board since 2020 in the roles of Communication Officer, President-Elect, and President. I also served on the Systems Thinking and Change (STC) division for two years as a Board Director. It has been such a rewarding experience to serve as a volunteer, a convention planner, and a division leadership team member. In my current teaching and advising, I have supervised various technology and dissertation projects and interacted with teachers and educational leaders who constantly experience the excitement as well as frustration from the adoption of learning technologies and change management. I have also been promoting student membership through Wilkes student chapter of the PAECT (the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications & Technology), with the goal of improving students’ awareness of and preparedness for the changing digital environments. Many of these experiences have contributed to my research interests related to technology affordance and system thinking.

I am grateful for the professionalism, the friendship, and the rich interaction with scholars from the U.S. and different parts of the world, which nurtured my own development as a higher education academic these years. It would be an honor to continue my service for the AECT community. Thank you for your consideration and support.
