AECT
Treasurer

Morgan Harrell
Liberty University - Download Profile/Vita

I enjoy writing to teach and impart knowledge in books, technical writing, and instructional design. I understand numbers as another form of communication, and finance is a numerical presentation of rules and regulations that paint the picture of an organization or a person.

Experience with AECT

I joined AECT after I began my Ph.D. program. I have participated in a couple of research projects for other members. I look forward to developing skills outside of academia to help me be a better writer and designer.

Vision for AECT

The vision I have for AECT is to include digital literacy in educational technology. The rapid developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning are changing the way we learn, teach, research, and socialize in life. Technology is advancing at a faster rate than our digital skills. I think this is an important aspect to add to our vision of being the premier international organization.

Role of Treasurer

A Treasurer should follow the by-laws with due diligence, integrity, and good faith. The treasurer is ultimately responsible for accuracy in any financial transactions, reporting, and tax forms, regardless of any duties that may be delegated to other members. The rules for current record keeping, filing pertinent documents, and keeping abreast of changes in legislation are necessary to be in good order and avoid the Staff Accountant, CPA, or auditor's unnecessary cleanup. Asking questions, researching, and communicating with the Staff Accountant are necessary skills to be successful.

Educational Background and Experience

In summary, I have a B.S. in Mathematics from Creighton University, an A.A.S in Technical Communications and A.A.S. in Government Communications from Austin Community College, a Master's in Instructional Design and Technology from West Texas A&M,  and I am five classes away from my dissertation for a Ph.D. I have varied leadership experience from the US Air Force, Union Pacific Railroad, Colorado Department of Revenue, Dell, Texas Department of Agriculture, and my own small business. I have been active in serving the community with the Alpha Gamma Pi chapter of Phi Kappa Theta, Alpha Gamma Pi Alumni Association, National Society for Leadership and Success, and Kappa Delta Pi. I have also served on an HOA board, three nonprofit boards, and a city of advisors board.
